The Radetics in America are also descendents of Martin Piskulic (Click to see all US descendents). Martin b. 11 Nov 1850 (father Ivan) mar Cecilia Maricic b. 20 Nov 1853, they had three daughters that came to America: Elizabeth 29 October 1879, Barbara 16 November 1884, and Katarina 23 November 1886. Martin & Cecelia Piskulic had at least 3 more daughters: Maria b. 20 Dec 1876, Anka b. 26 Jul 1878, and Rozalia 27 September 1881. And, finally, after 6 daughters, they had a son Eduardo 23 September 1892.

The Radetic line descended as follows:
It seems that Radetichs did not originate in Novi. The story as it goes. Ivan RADE & his wife Margarita Dubrovich
came from Kastua, they came with 3 sons & 1 daughter:
Jurai (George), Ivan, Mate & Katarina
3 sons married on 15 Oct 1722: Jurai mar Anna Piskulich (Matti); Ivan mar Katarina Petrinovich (Ivan); and, Mate mar Katarina Potocnjak (Mikula)
The daughter mar 1726 Andrij Lilan (brother of Dorotia Lilan that mar Stanko Jezich in 1714)
A brief outline:
Sinisa Radetic of Italy claims that his family heralded from the village of Radetici (located near Kastua on the map) in
Istria near Rijeka.
An Historical Note
By John PaskulichOur ancestor Ivan Rade arrived in Novi about 1710 with his family from Kastua (Castua/Kastav) 6 miles from Rijeka and about 30 miles from Novi. Within a few years he appears by the name Radetic. There are some people in the Rijeka region today named Rade but a large number of Radetic families in Istria according to the Croat phonebook. The question is, was our ancestor really Radetic and incorrectly first recorded in Novi by the priest as Rade? Radetici (present spelling) is located in central Istria about 30 miles wsw of Rijeka and according to the phonebook is populated with Radetic families.
Castua/Kastav during the early 1700s was a feudal Jesuit possession. It is my theory that Ivan Rade/Radetic came from the region around Radetici moved to Castua temporarily and then to Novi and settled. Istria was close to Venetian territory and there may have been military action between Venice and Austria at the time that encouraged them to move. Each move would have been about 30 miles, a monumental distance if moving a family, possessions and livestock through what would have been some pretty wild country in 1700. If anyone has other ideas I'd be pleased to hear them. I'm attempting to record as much as I can about our origins for my kids. A lot of it at the moment is guesswork.
Also does anyone have any theories about the origins of Piskulic, Dobric names? I have vague and probably mistaken memories of my late father saying that he thought that Piskulic originated in the Peljesac region near Dubrovnik. Also there are quite a few Piskulic in Central Croatia around Nova Gradiska in Slavonia and their relationship to Novi Piskulic families is a mystery to me. My Dobric Grandfather always reckoned they were newcomers to Novi (only 400 years ago!). Dobric is very common throughout the Balkans from Serbia through to Bulgaria although a large concentration of them are in Dalmatia. Any ideas?
